Samurai Sword Maintenance Knowledge The scabbard of a samurai sword is made from multiple layers of lacquer. Occasionally, wiping it with a soft cloth will keep it shiny. When holding the scabbard, grip the upper outer part to avoid touching the lacquered areas, as even small marks can dull the finish. Maintaining the blade is crucial for keeping it in perfect condition. The maintenance kit helps you keep your samurai sword in the same condition as when you first bought it. This kit uses talcum powder inside the uchiko ball. Talcum powder is very soft and gentle, making it ideal for beginners and safe for regular cleaning. It helps absorb oil and moisture, but does not have polishing properties. Traditional Japanese maintenance kits often use Hon-metsuna-ko, a fine powder made from polishing stones. Hon-metsuna-ko contains microscopic abrasive particles, which can lightly polish the blade and remove minor oxidation, but it is more expensive and usually reserved for advanced collectors or professional polishers. 👉 In summary: |
